My Approach

Foundations

It is first and foremost my priority as your counsellor to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and accepted for who you are and where you are at on your healing journey. I recognize that it can feel daunting to allow someone else into our innermost world and it is my intention that our time together will be built on trust and safety and our discussions will always be free of judgement. The foundation for my work is from a trauma-informed, feminist, and culturally sensitive lens, and I celebrate all of the uniqueness that each individual brings.

Methods

I believe that our bodies hold both our past and present wounds, as well as the knowledge to face them and move through them. So, my approach is predominantly grounded in 'feeling' and 'being' practices, these include somatic and sensorimotor theories where we explore the experiences of the body and inner parts. I also make use of 'thinking' and 'doing' practices that include approaches such as Internal Family Systems theory, polyvagal theory, CBT and narrative therapy, to explore the way your experiences have shaped how you show up and process the world around you. We will work collaboratively to establish which approach will work best for you and the treatment path that will be most helpful for you.

Inclusivity and Diversity

I welcome individuals from all backgrounds and experiences and celebrate the differences we all bring. It is my intention to continue to learn and educate myself and be an ally and advocate for marginalized communities.
